Are you ready to join the ranks of people who are transforming their lives just by logging off?
Now that you are all geared up to take up this 7-day social media detox challenge, lemme help you with the day-to-day challenges that will keep you boosted and away from social media.
Day 1: Unplug for straight 3 hours!
The first day of your social media detox challenge can be quite difficult for you, especially if you are habitual in using your phone throughout the day.
Day 1 requires you to avoid social media for straight 3 hours. This may sound terrible. But trust me, you will feel good later on.
Use those precious 180 minutes of your life to do something meaningful. For instance, you can read books, listen to podcasts, hit the gym, meet your loved ones, go out shopping, indulge in self-care, and so much more.
Day 2: Set on an “unfollow” spree.
We tend to follow people mindlessly as we scroll through different social media apps. So, make your day 2 all about unfollowing others. Put on a timer of 20 minutes. Open each social media app one by one.
Jump onto the “Following” section.
If the celeb/influencer/friend you are following gives you warm, feel-good vibes, it’s okay. But in case you feel triggered, hopeless, anxious, or envious of their lives, it’s time to say GOODBYEEE!
Unfollow everyone with sheer detachment, and after 20 minutes, both your apps and mind will feel feathery light!
Day 3: Delete the most useless social media apps.
There are multiple social media apps on our phones and tablets. Go through each one of them carefully and identify the one that serves no purpose to you at all.
I am sure there will be many apps that you have not even used in the last couple of days, rather I would say, months or even years!!
Delete the most useless ones. If they bring no value to you, they do not deserve a place in your device’s storage, right?!
Day 4. Turn off social media notifications.
It gets incredibly difficult to put your phone down as the constant notification tunes keep you distracted all the time.
Start your day 4 by turning off all the social media app notifications. You can keep the work app notifications on, though.
Any social media platform that does not need your immediate attention should be kept in silent mode. Thus, you will not feel the urge to pick up your phone every time a notification rings.
Day 5. Uncheck the “save my password” option.
The “Save my password” option is meant for seamless access and login to all the apps. But since you are taking the 7-day social media detox, your aim is to make the login process difficult.
So start your day 5 by unchecking the “save my password” option. This will prevent the quick and frequent “check-ins.”
Entering your login credentials manually every time will bring down social media usage significantly.
Day 6. Use only ‘one social media app’ today.
The 6th day of the social media detox challenge restricts your social media usage to a great extent.
You are allowed to use just one social media app of your choice in these 24 hours. Ahh! I know it’s going to be tough in the beginning, but you are strong enough, I know!!
Day 7. Unplug 4 hours before hitting the bed.
Generally, you must switch off your phone and other electronics 2 hours before bedtime. But since it is the last day of the detox challenge, you will go the extra mile!
Today, you will unplug your phone 4 hours before calling it a day.
Log out of all your social media apps 4 hours before bedtime and spend the time with your family and yourself.
Do’s and Dont’s for Social Media Detox Challenge
- You cannot use social media right after waking up.
- It is not allowed to use social media while having your meals.
